Two OTHL teams take part in Chandigarh tournament

Sunil Vohra Memorcial Cup is an important  hockey calendar activity in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, which is capital for prosperous Punjab and Haryana. The event is for school team and for Under-14 boys. Like last year, OTHL entered its Delhi team. In addition, OTHL's Kolkata also made their maiden entry. Its nice of the organizers that they accepted two teams from our increasingly acceptable NGO.

Competition season begins in Delhi OTHL

OTHL Delhi conducted summer camps in many centres across the city: Anglo-Arabic Sr Sec School Grounds, Yamuna Sports Complex and Union Academy Sr Sec Schools to quote a few. These camps ran for three to 10 weeks starting from the last week of April. With the onset of monsoon, the month of July and mid-August wtinessed opening of schools. Since our grounds have become wet, these 45 - 50 days were used for focussing OTHL wards on academics.

Globally popular sports monthly magazine, Sports Illustrated,  staged its sixth Annual Sports Person of the Year (SOTY) Awards night recently. While Olympic Gold medallist PV Sindhu was declared Sports Person of the Year and her coach Khel Ratna Gopi Chand as Coach of the Year, our NGO got a big boost when its founder K. Its summer time. School boys are relative free, enjoying long summer vacation. Its also ideal time to travel, mix with people all around, gain experience both on sports fields and social front. In keeping with its policy of providing these opportunities to our under-privileged kids, One Thousand Hockey Legs organized two trip in May-June. First one for those boys who attend summer camp in Yamuna Sports Complex, majority of them from Govt Boys Senior Secondary School, Ghittorni.

Playing their heart out, the school boys team of Citizen Hockey XI (One Thousand Hockey Legs) made a winning start at the 7th Hockey India Sub-Junior Nationals Championship (Div B) in Bengaluru today. Braving strong rival and hot weather, Citizen Hockey XI team led by defender Zainul Samar of YA Sarvodaya Bal Vidyala, Dr.Ambedkar Nagar, New Delhi, defeated state team of Himachal Pradesh 2-0.

Hockey Citizen Group, the NGO that brought me to hockey, gave me the responsibility of managing the One Thousand Hockey Legs XI team for the third Delhi State Sub-Junior Championship. State Championship provide an excellent opportunity for the hockey kids of each State to showcase their skills, and earn a certificate and medal which will help them move up in career pursuits.
