We need to concentrate on hockey at the school level. To put some perspective, when I passed out from school, there used to be football and hockey grounds to play. Within the past five years, the available playground size shrunk to the size of a basketball court.
Five years further down the line, there will not be space to play even the pebble game 'staapu' in some schools. Naturally, cricket takes over because it is more practical to play galli cricket than galli hockey.

ONE THOUSAND HOCKEY LEGS should take off to a flying start in Kolkata.

Thereafter we started on the 23rd Feb at 2-30 pm from the Apollo Hospital and reached the Julien Day School, Ganganagar and spoke to Mr Julian Glynn Broughton and Rocky Downes; made our presentation and willingly accepted their sch...
Voluntarism is foundation on which the castle of One Thousand Hockey is sought to be built. We, in the Citizen Hockey Group, seek to reach volunteers through our website (othl.stick2hockey.com) to open hockey teams in schools, where the sport was not played in the recent past.
We made a significant inroad in our quest for nestling volunteers when a professional doctor contacted us for offering his services to OTHL-one of the early birds to come home to this site.
Recently I was on my maiden visit to Kolkata.
Purpose: Explore the possibilities of how we can start ‘One Thousand Hockey Legs’ on grass root levels.
You say ‘Calcutta’ or ‘Kolkata’ and various people have different remarks to make. They have various queries. Yes, Kolkata is a different place to be. The unique thing about Taxis there is, they never say ‘no’, may wherever you have to go.
In many ways, Kolkata is a city of contrasts.

I was at Vivekanand Higher Secondary School, Lawspet, Pondicherry.
As I was introduced, I was asked to say a few words. More than a thousand children were facing me. I was quite nervous.
“Good morning t...
