31/03/2009

One Thousand Hockey Legs makes a beginning in West Bengal. The Morepukur based Rishar Brahmananda Keshab Chandra High School, has completed the formalities to enlist themselves with the Hockey Citizen Group's flagship program, One Thousand Hockey Legs.

In their communications, the authorities have welcomed the concept. 'Let us first congratulate you on this bold initiative', says the letter the office of the HCG received on the last working day of March 2009.

They also expressed their emotional oneness with the project: 'Please note that we are very much wity you in achieving your goal of introducing our national game to at least 500 children a year', the acceptance letter from the school thus read.

The school authorities are proud to be selected part of this venture and assured HCG of their fullest co-operation.

The school authorities nominated Shri Anindya Sarkar as Liaison Officer for the program. It is the practice in the execution mode of the OTHL program that the schools are requested to nominate a Liaison officer to smoothly run the program.

As our readers are aware, on the request of Dr. Shankar Chatterjee, HCG Volunteer, Shashank Gupta (Head, Operations, HCG) visited Kolkata last month. Both Dr. Shankar and Shashank met six school authorities and explained the concept of creating hockey culture in the school through the novel wonderfully conceived OTHL program.

The acceptance letter and payment of subscription money (Rs.1000) by the Rishra School, puts the HCG to rise to the occasion. As our volunteer Dr. Shankar foresees the program should start before the on set of monsoon, which comes in May in Kolkata.

"This is our drive that has made this progress possible" Dr. Shankar said matter of factly. The volunteer was reacting to the news of first school in Kolkata to join the OTHL bandwagaon.

Developing sustained passion for Hockey by introduction of Hockey to pre and early teenaged children and simultaneously promoting playing sport as a culture and tradition, thereby contributing to develop a sports loving society.
