The Essay that won the First Prize

28/11/2009

Everyone should have a dream in life, my dream is to became a good hockey player. A lofty dream inspired me to do greater things. There are many reasons for me to become a good hockey player.

It is my desire to dedicate myself to hockey. I had played many games but hockey is the most I like. It is my favourite game, it is fascinating game. Hockey is the game of skill, every hockey player should have sound body and legs. He should be very agile. I am good player of hockey, I enjoyed very much, it helps me in increasing my health, physique and discipline. Hockey is also our national game, so I entered the field

Now am playing under Mr. Murthy, coach. He is our coach at present I like to play hockey when I was childhood, my first coach who taught me hockey is Dr. M. Bose. He was the first coach who came to our Pondicherry. He taught me everything. He would also show hockey matches in CDs to learn how to play. In Pondicherry, my favourite couch is Dr. M. Bose and Mr. Murthy.

My position is full back, I first I don’t like the full back position but my coach Mr. Murthy told that he was also given the fullback position in his childhood. He told that the fullback position is the backbone of the team and it is a great position.

Then later on I understood it, I liked the fullback position very much.

My father was a great football player and he has played 15 national and a international game; he was a hockey goal keeper as well. He finished his civil service as a team captain in both football and hockey.

He only inspired me and he wanted to become an engineer. But my dream is to become a hockey player and I want my house to be filled up with Cups and Gold medals. I want to play hockey for three years and I want to play well. But I cannot because I am not going to ground nowadays. Since I have lot of home works and lot of study, am going to ground weekly once, that is Thursday.

My team members joined six members before but am the senior. My team captain Ratna Kumar forward player and Balaji left extreme player. Their skills are very talented because they took effort. They practiced day and night, but I have not improved my skills because I have not taken any effort. My skills will grow day by day hereafter because I starting to take more effort.

My favourite hockey players are Dhyan Chand and Dilip Tirkey. Dhyan Chand got the title magic man of hockey and he is the legend of hockey. He has scored 27 goals in a match and thus got this title. His skills were amazing and mind blowing and by dribbling he goes on for 8 to 10 km daily so that his effort would make him a perfect man.

My coach will tell a proverb while practicing that is “perfect practice makes a man perfect”.

Mr. Dilip Tirkey has played more than 400 matches and brought proud to India. He is still playing. Mr. Dhanraj Pillay is a hockey legend after Mr. Dhyan Chand. He has got some high prestigious award for India. I like Mr. Dhanraj Pillay and I want to become a good player like Dhanraj Pillay. It is my ambition because he is a very talented person. He has many tricks with him, and he is man of tricks.

Why I came to hockey field is because, hockey is our national game.

One day I had a dream that am playing in Sub-Junior Nationals and I have got the Man of the Match award and I was screaming (in joy) in the night. My mother shook me and told ‘don’t scream’, your practice will make you a perfect player. I want to play in many matches and get Cups and medals for India, and make India proud.

I want some of the hockey players to become coach and team the students and make them as a player like Mr. Dhanraj Pillay and Mr. Dilip Tirkey

I was selected for the Sub-Junior national in hockey. But when they told me that the National was cancelled I was sad, my dreams were also collapsed. I remembered the proverb that my coach used to tell me -- that is, failure is the stepping stone for the success.

I am practicing to become a good player in my future. I want more associations should be formed and give opportunities to the children who have talent and skill, full performance and make them as mentally and physically fit and make them as a good player.

In my future I want to join SAI (Sports Authority of India) and improve my skills. The next step is I want to become a coach. And step by step, I want to study PHD and become a perfect coach and teach my students as well as I can.

Then I want to produce more hockey players and get a title for India -- that country of hockey is India.

That is my ambition or gold or dreams in my life. Jai Hind.
