About the School

Milestones do not come every other day. They come hardly and quite rarely. The one milestone that the Amalopavam Higher Secondary School achieved recently comes once in 25 years. Yes, the celebrated school in Puducherry is presently on its glorious Silver Jubilee Year (2008-2009).

Since commenced 25 years ago, the school has produced wonderful results, and is a home to many great human beings, besides achieving innumerable measurable laurels.

The school organized its Silver Jubilee Inauguration on December 6 and 7.

Archbishop of Puducherry and Cuddalore, Most Rev. A. Anandarayar solemnised a holy mass on the first day. Releasing a Silver Jubilee Year Logo and opening of a new additional block marked the occasion A. Anbazhagan, Member of Legislative Assembly, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church Fr. A. Thomas, Principal of the School S. A. Lourdusamy, auditor of the school K. Nataraj Prabhu and Chief Manager of Small Industries branch of State Bank of India V. Sekhar were present on the occasion.

On the second day, Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Puducherry Division, Santhana Raman, released a special cover which was received by none other than Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam. Member of Parliament M. Ramadass released the school magazine entitled ‘Amalorpavam, a Memoir.’ Advocate General of Tamil Nadu G. Masilamani presented gold coins to outstanding students of Class X of 2007-2008, while the Jalaja Balakrishnan, vice-principal, spoke on the occasion.

The famous school presents gold coins to its achievers - a gesture that has been winning the hearts of not just those proud winners, but their parents and public alike.

Recently, in keeping with the tradition, the school presented Gold Coins to first 3 toppers in +2 examinations. It is notable that for the past 13 years, the school has been awarding gold coins to students who topped State ranks, the first three school toppers and subject-wise toppers.

The school is vibrant, and keeps organizing many events. One event that it staged recently is 24th Patrons Day on December 8. On that occasion, Archbishop Emeritus Reverend S. Michael Augustine blessed students appearing for their Standard XII public examinations in 2008.

Recently 10 students of the school took part in the Open State-Level Chess Championship, and seven students won prizes:

In October, the schools successfully staged the State-level Ranking Table Tennis Ranking Championship. Honorary Secretary of Puducherry State Table Tennis Association P. Karunakaran inaugurated the tournament while Regional Manager, State Bank of India, R. Suresh Johnson gave away prizes to winners. .

It is heartening that such a highly acclaimed institution has taken steps to introduce National Game of India to its students. Principal S.A. Lourdusamy had a hearty interaction with the visiting delegation of the Hockey Citizen Group (HCG). He has willingly accepted their proposal of bringing hockey home to children in their campus. A fortnight later, the School has subscribed to the scheme by paying the annual subscription fee to the HCG.

This site will update further hockey developments in the school. Before that, let us wholeheartedly wish Amalorpavam School all the success in its Silver Jubilee Year.

We, at the Hockey Citizen Group, are thrilled to be part of the prestigious school in its milestone Silver Jubilee year.
