13/01/2011

Muslim High School, located in the busy Tiruvallikeni area of Chennai, has taken up hockey seriously.

Recently, they completed all formalities to join One Thousand Hockey Legs.

Muslim School, a prominent talent pool for tennis and other Olympic sports in the metropolis, did not have a hockey team right now.

PETs Rahim and Basha could not confirm existence of hockey teams in the school as it was not there in the recent past.

While negotiating with the visiting OTHL team, Mr. Rahim brought out the reality of the school not having a hockey ground

Soon, he took efforts to find a ground facility in a nearby school, and was kind enough to talk to the person incharge of the ground.

He got a nod from the nearby school, and then what remained between the school and hockey was formalities, and then getting the sticks delivered to the school

Our volunteer Dinesh Murugesh spared his valuable time to see the things take shape in time, and delivered the stick last week

The sticks were then delivered to Mr. Bhasa and his wards (as these pictures would vouchsafe) in his presence.

Basha is a hockey coach himself, and was not having an opportunity to train his own school boys for lack of ground and equipment.

He thanked volunteer Dinesh and the OTHL team for bringing hockey to their door steps.

Muslim School is fourth school in Chennai to come under the fold of 'One Thousand Hockey Legs'.

The other three schools are St. Bedes (Santhome), St. Anthony (Egmore) and Don Bosco (Egmore).

As the above information reveals, this is the first government school in Chennai to join us, and we have always seen such schools performing better on the grounds.

It is therefore hoped Muslim school will set the bench mark of standard for rest of our schools, but as of now the school has taken its baby steps towards a bright hockey days.
