Quiz Program, our future focus?

21/04/2009

"They conducted the Quic program like we see in television shows". This is how Srinivasan, principal, Swami Vivekananda Higher Secondary School, Tirubhuvanai, one of the OTHL listed schools in Puducherry, summer up.

He is visibily happy over the quiz program designed on power point by volunteer Chennai based Somesh, conducted jointly by Shashank Gupta and local quiz master Ramanan, during the just concluded summer camp in Puducherry.

Srinivasan further added: "I told my school people to organize more and more quiz program in the line of what we saw the other day in our camp. Because, the information was all new to them, and the boys and girls were very much interested in this novelty, I should say"

When is the audience coming..?

OTHL is part of the dream the Hockey Citizen Group wishes to have -- to create a hockey culture in schools. Playing hockey is not just enough, it is essential to know about hockey, its stars and all other aspects.

During the camp we found time to conduct the quiz, in part to give rest to the students who were really wary of hot summer.

Some 12 children prepared for the Quiz Competition. While the coaches took turn and told them the technical details of Hockey, they also kept themselves reading print material on Hockey. They have been supplied with ‘A-B-C of hockey’ a booklet prepared exclusively for this purpose by the Hockey Citizen Group.

As the clock showed 1400hrs, our last hour of off-the-field activity had set in. This had to be the most exciting one.

anyone?

We had 4 teams of 3 members each participating from Amalorpvam School, Vivekanandha School (Lawspet), Petit Seminaire and Swami Vivekanandha School (Thirubhunanai).

The audience constituted of all the children and adults involved in the Summer Camp. After the rules of the competions were explained, children were specifically instructed not to speak out of turn or else that would result in negative marks.
Mr. Ramanan, a professional quiz master, joined in and with quick interchange of English and Tamil, with the quiz happening on a LCD Projector, the show was a super-hit!

As the questions passed, there were desperate expressions of the faces of children of subsequent teams to grab those bonus points on a ‘passed question’

We are no less than the boys...!

There was too much of hulla gulla as the Quiz progressed. Children in the audience contributed a tremendous energy to the whole show. Children cheered for their school teams.

40 questions with 4 picture round questions took a little less than hour.

Finally, Petit Seminaire children won the quiz scoring 56 marks.

Developing sustained passion for Hockey by introduction of Hockey to pre and early teenaged children and simultaneously promoting playing sport as a culture and tradition, thereby contributing to develop a sports loving society.
