David will be in Pondicherry to oversee the start of schools hockey
Player turned writer Bodapatty David will visit Puducherry next week to oversee the inauguration of schools hockey there.
Bangalore based David has been involved in training school kids for over a decade, with notable stints in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai. He is also a journalist, now working with an NGO dealing with AIDS.
It is a matter of deep satisfaction that person like David, who has supported many budding players by service and financial support, has agreed to the request of the Hockey Citizen Group to initiate tiny tots into the hockey domain.
"It is always easy to improve those who know hockey. It is not easy to train children who are never into hockey. However, once they learn and start dribbling the way you want, the joy is forever", David said.
"It is important that right techniques are imparted to students, lest more time will be wasted in correcting them later. This trip therefore will give me an opportunity to interact with the enlisted coaches so that we assess strength and weaknesses of our coaching resources", David explained.
David played for Andhra in his school days and University team as goalkeeper.
David evinced interest to take a player of repute to Puducherry so that "Children see their stars in person and get the right inspiration".
"This part of the year I used to be part of the Premier Hockey League. The event was not held this year, which I miss. However, Puducherry gives me a chance to be in touch with hockey through training school kids. It is going to be personally fulfilling", the gentleman reasoned.
Five schools in Puducherry are staring hockey teams in the second week of January at the initiative of Hockey Citizen Group.
