The crucial last phase of the innovative Schools Hockey League 2009 has commenced. The last week of November will take the Special Schools Trophy to its home -- which will be decided after all the seven matches are completed in Puducherry this week.
Two matches each on 23rd and 24th have been held on Tuesday and Wednesday, but not before the organiers climbed a mountain of problem before the ball was set in motion.

As the year 2009 year comes to a close, One Thousand Hockey Legs prepares to conclude the Hockey season for this year.
Next 4 days, will have the 'Final Round of League Matches' in Puducherry, the final Grand Quiz followed by giving out the 'Best School in Hockey 2009' Trophy....

After about six months of home work, our OTHL kicked off in Kolkata. We had two days of program, following is the sum up of Day 1 (26 Oct '09).

Owing to my professional commitments, the Day 2 (27th Oct ’09)started a bit late for us. It was almost noon by the time we reached Khalsa High School Bhowanipore.
This school had a reputation of playing hockey in the past but at present there is a paucity of regular players in the age group (standards 6-9) and the School was eager to join our programme. I learnt hockey as a student of Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Higher Secondary School in my hometown, Chennai. I always wanted, like me, students in Chennai should have an opportunity to play and enjoy hockey in their school premises.
Students can play hockey only when the game is played in the schools. It was not often the case, as most schools do not practice hockey nowadays.

All the efforts we in the Hockey Citizen Group put in in the last eight months blossomed to a satisfying level in the second week of August.
The purpose was to kick off the Hockey League in schools -- play and host matches in school premises, and also to spread knowledge in an exciting manner, and it was accomplished with the conduct of series of Quizzes in all the partner schools.

11 Aug: It was a bright hot afternoon at 1500 hrs. The ground was very done by the hosts – Vivekanandha HSS, Lawspet. Slight delay in the match because of certain logistics and the match started rolling.
In front of school ground, Vivekanandha School boys kept the umpire busy and made him signal a goal 5 times in a second half.
