Playing their heart out, the school boys team of Citizen Hockey XI (One Thousand Hockey Legs) made a winning start at the 7th Hockey India Sub-Junior Nationals Championship (Div B) in Bengaluru today. Braving strong rival and hot weather, Citizen Hockey XI team led by defender Zainul Samar of YA Sarvodaya Bal Vidyala, Dr.Ambedkar Nagar, New Delhi, defeated state team of Himachal Pradesh 2-0.

Hockey Citizen Group, the NGO that brought me to hockey, gave me the responsibility of managing the One Thousand Hockey Legs XI team for the third Delhi State Sub-Junior Championship. Various teams for the 2017 season announced, based on the performance, commitment, competency of kids who participated in the 3-month long Delhi OTHL Sunday Hockey League 2016. The experimental Delhi OTHL Schools Hockey League has reached its business end. The semifinals were held last Tuesday after three months of non-stop Sunday matches. In the first semifinal Ashok Vihar overcame stiff resistance of new powerhouse Ghittorni to enter the final.
In the second semifinal, Janakpuri set aside the challenge of Mahrauli school. Earlier, Maharauli school also overcame Saket in the Play Off.
